Thanks Sacred One.
This just happened to me. After installing (improperly) ET, and uninstalling using Windows Uninstall from Control panel and deleting ET folder. I re-installed and before I copied any of the files I saved. It had NF menu and jakeson-NF. Weird huh? The reason was the UAC and it's virtualization folders.
None of the following is required for Windows XP:
Also, Revo is not necessary. You can delete the virtualization folders for ET manually. I used Consumer Preview for screenshot, Vista or 7 may have files that differ slightly from this so I recommend Revo to find all the files.
2nd screenshot shows all Virtual files that need to be removed except for the custom and mods which are in the standard ET directory (thanks Pedro)
The files shown in 2nd screenshot are mostly in the appdata virtualization folders (which are hidden) and part of the UAC system.
This system is used for legacy applications like ET. Legacy app may not have permission to write to it's own folder,(Stop screaming Pedro, you will scare your neighbors) The OS uses these Virtual folders and files (copies) instead.
So, they must be removed to do a "clean" install of ET. Otherwise, you may have leftover ET files in Virtual folders that may get used by the game. (Microsucks fault for not removing these files)
**NOTE** The UAC and virtual folders add a certain level of security. And ET does work with UAC.
My recommendation for running ET in Windows Vista, 7 or 8 is to disable UAC:
UAC Trust shortcut It will allow you to disable UAC for individual apps.
This can also be done manually
For Power Users: (a.k.a The Sacred Emperor)You will want to disable the UAC completely.
I know I have skimmed over this subject. If you are left wondering about UAC or any other part. For Satan's sake, Google it!!! (spellcheck made me capitalize Satan. HAHA)
Also, Nerdtarget is still trying to find the right level of medication for his affliction. And it shows!
